Early retirement in 1993 gave him the flexibility to spend a year living in Sydney, Australia.
His interests included competitive marksmanship in high school and the Army, playing lacrosse in college, hiking in Colorado, traveling, astronomy, and, later in life, square dancing, round dancing, and barbershop singing.
