Wesley Brown

November 30, 1935 — November 19, 2013

Wesley Vergil Brown died on Monday, November 19, 2013 in Lafayette. He was 77. A Service will be held Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at 12:00 P.M. at Ft. Logan National Cemetery Area A. Military Honors to be provided by the United States Navy. Wes was "a man among men." A friend to everyone, he never met a stranger and was forever devoted to his family. He lived the life he wanted and was a happy man. He was born on September 28, 1936 in Henry, Nebraska, the son of Cecil Perry Brown and Inez Mabel Coons Brown. He graduated from Upton High School in Upton, Wyo. and attended the University of Wyoming in Laramie. Wes married Antonette "Toni" Louise Larson on July 2, 1960 in Newcastle, Wyoming. The couple moved to Boulder in 1961 and after working for several different roofing companies he opened his own business, Wes Brown Roofing. He "retired" after 35 years, only to own another business, B.M.B. Secure Mini Storage in Lafayette, with his wife and son, Scott. Wes was active in the American Legion Post #10 in Boulder until five years ago. He was an Honorary Life Member for 46 years and served as Post Commander in 1979. He was District 4 Commander in 1984, an adjutant at the post level for 11 years and held many other offices. He coached the American Legion Department of Colorado baseball team to championships in each of his 17 years. He was also a member of the VFW Post 807 in Boulder for 34 years. Wes was an avid hunter and loved to fish and camp. In the last 10 years he and Toni enjoyed traveling together. He adored his grandchildren and was the greatest "Pa-Pa." Wes is survived by his wife Toni of Broomfield; son Scott Brown and his wife Michele of Lafayette; daughter Sheri Knapik and her husband Chris of Renton, Washington; Brother Richard Brown and his wife Joyce of Newcastle, Wyoming; and three grandchildren, Aric James Knapik, Sydney Ella Brown and Wesley Ian Brown. He was preceded in death by his sister Doris Moody and his parents. In memory of Wesley V. Brown, contributions may be made to the Wild Animal Sanctuary, 1946 County Road 53, Keenesburg, CO 80643 or wildanimalsanctuary.org.
