Shirley Jean Pfeiffer passed away March 16th, 2026, in Fort Collins, CO. She was 89.
Born July 24th, 1936, in Friend, NE, to Helene Francis and Eugene John Spacek, Shirley grew up in an agricultural family. When she was young, her father moved the family to Idaho to run a farm and ranch. Shirley graduated from Filer High School (Filer, ID). She then earned her degree as a Registered Nurse from St. Mark’s Hospital School of Nursing in Salt Lake City, UT. She worked as an RN in San Francisco, CA, and as a home health nurse in the Boulder, CO area prior to her marriage in December 1966 to Rodger Lee Pfeiffer (USAF) in Sacramento, CA. The two met at a social event with a Tall Club. With Rodger standing 6’ 2” and Shirley at 5’ 11”, they were on the short side of the attendees. As the Pfeiffer family began to grow, Shirley put her nursing career on hold until the kids, Frederick, Gordon, Joy, and Eric, were older and more independent. In 1980, as Rodger retired from the Air Force and the family settled in the Boulder, CO area, Shirley restarted her career as an RN at Family Practice Associates, a position she held throughout the 1980s and ‘90s.
Wherever she lived, Shirley was involved with her church and community. She enjoyed needlepoint and particularly loved music. Shirley used to sing, play guitar, accordion, and piano, the last of which she taught her children.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Rodger Pfeiffer (2021), her son, Eric Pfeiffer (2002), and her brother, Allen Spacek (2012). She is survived by her brother, Marvin Spacek of Riddle, OR, her sons, Frederick Pfeiffer (spouse Tammy) of Loveland, CO, and Gordon Pfeiffer (Alicia) of Broomfield, CO, and her daughter, Joy Donaldson (Jim) of Greeley, CO. She also leaves behind seven wonderful grandchildren.
A graveside service will be officiated by Pastor Aaron Nash on Monday, April 6, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Staging area Blue (4400 W. Kenyon Ave., Denver, CO 80236). In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to 4000-137-Boardwell, Matthew and Pamela at WorldVenture.com.
Shirley was a dedicated wife, mother, nurse, and servant of God. She will be missed by the many, many people she loved and helped. The family thanks you for your kind remembrances and loving prayers.
