Morten Hempel

Morten G. “Mort” Hempel of Boulder died Monday, August 24, 2015. He was 71. A visitation will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2200 Broadway, Boulder, CO on Monday August 31, 2015 at 9:00 A.M., followed by a service in celebration of Mort’s life at 10:00 A.M. A reception will follow the service at the church. Mort was born December 7, 1943 to Soren and Brigit Hempel of Copenhagen Denmark. He graduated from Berkeley High in Berkeley, California before receiving a trade certificate from the Vocational and Technical School in Boulder, CO. He pioneered several historic climbs in the Yosemite valet in the 1960’s. The majority of Mort’s career was self-employed working in the construction industry. He devoted many years supporting the Boulder Housing Community Mort is survived by his brother Jasper (Amey) Hempel of Lahaina, Hawaii; four sisters Anne (Flemming) Hempel of Copenhagen, Denmark, Karin Hempel (Tom Clarke) of Denver, Colorado, Lisa Hempel of Lodi, California and Britta (Greg) Herbert of San Antonio, Texas.
