Margaret B. Wilson

November 30, 1926 — December 24, 2015

Margaret Brown Wilson, always known as Peggy, was born in Denver Colorado on February 7, 1927. She was the only child of Charles M. and Jean W. Brown, a third generation Coloradan. Peggy attended East High School and graduated in January 1944. She then attended the University of Colorado where she was in the Delta Gamma Sorority and she graduated in June 1948. Peggy married John R. Wilson, the day after she graduated, on June 15, 1948. He also attended CU. He was 2 years older than Peggy having been born on May 3, 1925. John's studies were interrupted by the war. After the war he returned to CU where he and Peggy met and he graduated in June 1949. They had 2 sons, John who was immediately dubbed "Butch, and then Don who goes by "DB". Peggy was a sports enthusiast. Many would call her a football fanatic as she literally grieved at the end of the season (this may also be affected by the fact she never liked having a birthday and it comes just after the end of the football season). Her recall of specific games, specific facts about games and the players was incredible. Her family always deferred to her memory of these details. Her favorite football teams over the years have been the Denver Broncos and Colorado Buffaloes. She and John first got season tickets to the Buffs back in 1948 and she held onto them until the last five or so years. They also had Denver Bronco tickets from the late 60's and she had them even after the new Mile High Stadium was built. Needless to say, fall was her favorite season because it means Football! Her other favorite TV sport was golf. Her father was a terrific golfer and taught the game to her at an early age. She enjoyed golfing and had a deep respect for those who do it well. She was at the U.S. Open at Cherry Hills Country Club when Arnold Palmer came from 8 or 9 strokes back to win that tournament in 1960 and was always a huge fan of him because of that. Peggy attended many Rockies baseball games with her friends as well and did this into her 80's. Butch and DB affectionately called Peggy "Toots", which Butch came up with while in High School. She seemed to like it immensely and the name stuck with her from then on. All of her grandchildren also called her Toots. She did love to travel, taking a couple of trips to Europe, Canada, and the eastern U.S. with her cousins. She was a lifelong resident of Denver, except for her times in Boulder while attending CU and most recently at The Atrium and Brookdale Assisted Living. She is survived by her two sons, Butch and DB, and their wives Carol and Cindy respectively. She is also survived by grandson AJ and granddaughter Megan, and their respective spouses, Danni and Eric. Megan and Eric have great-granddaughter Malena, and great-grandson Alex. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband John, and granddaughter Whitney. Only a private family service will be held. In lieu of flowers, we would appreciate donations to Halcyon Hospice, P.O. Box 177, Mead, CO, 80542.
