Lois Cross

Lois Verona Hodgson Cross, 94, of Boulder, CO died Wednesday, January 4, 2017. A memorial service in celebration of Lois’ life is scheduled at Frasier Meadows Manor in the Sky Lounge on the fifth floor, 350 Ponca Place, Boulder, CO 80303 on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at 3:30 P.M. A reception will follow. Private family Burial will take place at Wilson Cemetery, Wilson, KS. Lois was born in Little River, Kansas to Edward Howard Hodgson and Erzella Somers Hodgson on March 4, 1922. She graduated from Little River High School and went to Kansas State University in Manhattan, KS. where she got her degree in journalism. She later attended Colorado University and received her Master’s in Personnel Services. On September 7, 1945, she married Richard Monroe Cross of Wilson, KS in Trenton, NJ. They farmed in Wilson, KS until Richard was killed in a car accident on March 12, 1956 at the age of 33. Lois moved to the Boulder area from Wilson, Kansas in 1959. She was a co-manager for a natural gas company as well as assistant dean for men and women at Colorado University. She was the volunteer director and did public relations for Ridge Home for the intellectually disabled, and worked for the Colorado State Library for the Blind. Lois was active in the First Presbyterian Church of Boulder as well as actively involved in PEO-Boulder Chapter CB, Writers Club and the Frasier Book Club. Lois was a warm, loving, dynamic, fun loving, capable, intelligent women with great leadership and personality. Lois is preceded in death by her husband, her parents and all her brothers and sisters. Lois is survived by two sons, Gregory Edward (Marie) Cross of Loveland, CO and Richard Monroe Cross of Boulder, CO; two daughters, Richelle Veronica (David) Force of Westminster, CO and Kristin Anne (George) Karakehian of Boulder, CO. She is also survived by five grandchildren; Natalya (Ian) Walsworth, Jessie (Kyle) Thompson, Jed (Allie) Cross, Katie (Trey) Olson, and Stevie (Chad) Vencil.
