Kayrene Butler Pearson, 92, of Boulder, died Jan. 12th.
She was born in The Dalles, Oregon, on May 31, 1933, to Nina and Grayson Butler of Condon, Oregon. She married Ivar Pearson in 1962.
Kayrene graduated with a joint degree from Oregon State University and Oregon College of Education. She taught elementary school in Salem, Oregon, before attending seminary at Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, California, where she received a Master of Divinity degree. Rev. Pearson was ordained in 1961. She was one of the first female ministers to work in Boulder. She joined the staff as Minister of Education at First Congregational Church, UCC. She also served as minister at Community United Church of Christ in Boulder.
Rev. Pearson retired in 1995 and volunteered as a hospice chaplain for Hospice of Boulder County (Tru Hospice), volunteered as chaplain at Frasier Meadows Manor, taught adult education classes in several Boulder churches, volunteered as a church school teacher, and served as interim pastoral care minister at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship for a short period of time. Rev. Pearson was a founding board member of the Family Resource Center, has served in the YWCA, the Interfaith Council of Boulder, and the Rocky Mountain Conference UCC.
Survivors include a son, David Bror Pearson of Longmont, CO, and a daughter, Mischa Kay Pearson of Longmont, CO.
