John Gonacha

November 30, 1920 — July 25, 2019

John was born in Walsenburg Colorado on October 12, 1921 and died peacefully in Denver on July 25, 2019 after a long and full life. John was predeceased by his loving wife of 55 years, Nancy, his son Richard, and his brother Frank.  He is survived by his daughters Cynthia, Susan and Laurie; six grandchildren (Jessica, Gillian, Marc, Brittani, Elizabeth, and Emmalee); seven great grandchildren; and his brother Carl and sister June. John served in WWII with the Army Combat Engineers in the South Pacific (Staff Sargent 1942-45). Following the war, John married Nancy and they lived all over Colorado before settling in Boulder. He was an electrical engineer (CU), spent his entire working life with Mountain Bell, and loved the fact that he was retired for more years than he worked! In retirement John enjoyed spending time with family, fly-fishing, and golfing. John and Nancy particularly enjoyed attending the annual reunion of his military unit in many parts of the U.S. over the years. He was always active in church-life, most recently serving as a Deacon with Valmont Community Presbyterian Church. A Memorial Service for John, followed by a reception, will be held at Valmont Community Presbyterian Church at 3262 61st Street, Boulder, CO, on October 1, 2019 at 1pm with Reverend Eric Garner officiating. The US Army will provide Military Honors. A private family graveside service will be held. In lieu of flowers, friends and family are encouraged to make a donation in John’s memory to a charity of their choice.
