Jay Reed

November 30, 1949 — November 15, 2020

On November 15th, 2020, Jay Edmond Reed, a loving husband and father of two, passed away at the age of 70 from complications stemming from an aortic aneurysm. He was born on February 4, 1950, on an American air base just outside Wiesbaden, Germany to Jason & Jean (Rhine) Reed. Raised in Colorado Springs, Jay graduated from Mitchell High School in 1968 and spent a year studying geology at the Colorado School of Mines before enlisting in the Navy for 4 years. Upon his discharge from the Navy he went on to work for Rocky Flats for 24 years before taking an early retirement. On February 16, 1980 he married Liz Wright. Together they raised a daughter, Audrey, and a son, Hamilton. Jay was a kind and quiet man who enjoyed spending his time collecting and playing with model trains, learning about American and Colorado history, and staying on top of the latest scientific discoveries of the world. He had a fondness for bad jokes and worse puns. If he couldn’t make a room laugh, he could always make it groan. The world is a quieter place without him. He was preceded in death by his parents. His brother, Ben survives. He is also survived by his nieces and nephew, and their loving families as well. They all miss him. A private graveside service will be held at Fort Logan on November 25th. In lieu of flowers the family requests a donation be made in Jay’s name to the Colorado Railroad Museum, FRIENDS of Broomfield, or the Longmont Humane Society.
