Gilbert (Rich) Aragon, 81, of Broomfield, CO passed away on Friday, August 16th at home after a long illness. Gil was born in Ft. Collins, CO to George and Grace Aragon and later moved with his family to Boulder, CO when he was 10 years old. Gil graduated from Boulder High School in 1962 and spent time fishing with friends and working. While working at the Cornucopia, he met the love of his life, Margaret whom he married in 1966 and recently celebrated 58 years together in July. Gil and Margaret have two sons, Richard and Brian, and two grandsons, Nathan and Devin. His grandsons were his pride and joy, and he was active and supportive, attending baseball, wrestling, football, and all academic events and graduations.
Gilbert served in the Army From 1967-1969 and spent a year in Vietnam. He was also a member of the Boulder Elks Lodge #566 for many years and served as Exalted ruler from 1994-1995. He worked at the University of Colorado as a painter in the Housing Dept, and owned his own paint company, Aragon Painting, until he retired.
Gil loved his morning newspapers, fishing, bowling, watching CU and Broncos football, and spending time with friends and family. During all these activities he made many dear friends and looked forward to seeing them weekly. Especially bowling and bible study groups.
Gil is survived by his wife Margaret, sons, Richard (Cathy) Aragon and Brian Aragon (Seanna Hartman), grandsons, Nathan and Devin Aragon, his brother Derek (Renee) Aragon, sisters Dixie Davis and Patricia (Richard) Cordova, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Gil was preceded in death by his parents George and Grace Aragon, and brothers Terry Aragon and Pete Aragon.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, September 13th at 11:00 am at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 3698 S. Sheridan, Denver, CO 80236. A luncheon will follow the graveside, and a Memorial Service will begin at 1:30 pm at Restoration Covenant Church, 7135 W 68th Ave, Arvada, CO 80003.
