Elizabeth Janecek

November 30, 1916 — November 7, 2013

Elizabeth L. "Betty" Janecek died on November 7, 2013 in Boulder. She was 95. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 18 at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church, 3300 Table Mesa Dr. in Boulder. There will be a reception following the service at the church. Betty was open, optimistic and uplifting. She was always polite, with a "please" and a "thank you," and treated everyone with respect. She dearly loved crocheting a unique afghan for each of her 12 grandchildren. She was a grand and generous lady and will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her. Her mantra throughout life was, "No room in the schedule" whether it was for arthritis, a broken hip or the flu and she was always up and ready to go. Cheerful to the end, she was great company and a good friend. Betty was born on December 19, 1917 to John A. Lahey and Irene Marie Risher Lahey in Detroit, Mich. As a young woman she volunteered at the Sarah Fisher Home for Unwed Mothers in Michigan. She served in the U.S. Navy as Pharmacist Mate with the Quantico Marines in World War II. She later worked as an administrative assistant for Dow Chemical in Detroit for 34 years. Betty married Louis John Janecek on July 27, 1979 in Bloomfield, Mich. They lived in Colombia, South America for five years, relocating for Louis' job. She enjoyed traveling with friends to Japan, Moscow and Machu Picchu. Betty is survived by her sisters Mary Ann Elliot of Bethesda, Md. and Rosemary Ledwidge of Bingham Farms, Mich.; her stepdaughters Erma Mantey of Boulder and Ann Brumfield of Henderson, Colo.; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1998; her sister Jane Graham; her stepdaughter Mary Margaret DeLangis; and her parents. Memorial contributions may be made to Angels' Place, 25240 Lahser Rd. Ste. #2, Southfield, Mich. 48033 or angelsplace.com.
