Dave was a devoted husband, father and friend. His happiest times included being with his loving wife Joan, sons Travis, Brent and new daughter-in-law Katie. He died in his home surrounded by the people he loved and who loved him, his family. Dave graduated from University of Colorado with a degree in Psychology and shortly after got a job working for the City of Boulder Recreation Department. Here, he was instrumental in building the burgeoning fitness programs as a teacher, leader and recruiter. A fateful visit to his grandparents in Florida would introduce Dave to SCUBA diving and ignite a passion that would span the rest of his life. The pursuit of this sport would lead to his 20 year ownership of Rocky Mountain Diving Center in Boulder, teaching thousands of people how to enjoy the underwater mysteries in a comfortable and safe manner. His passion came out in his lively and vivid retellings of his far off adventures. His love of diving, his amicable nature and his leadership skills came together when he became the first president of the Colorado Scuba Retailers Association. A generous, thoughtful and caring man, Dave brought light to all he interacted with and strove to give back. Early in his adult life, he coached basketball to 6th graders at Sacred Heart of Jesus and made sure every kid was included. Later, he joined the Optimist Club to enjoy the company of like-minded people. A true Coloradan at heart, he enjoyed the outdoors through hiking trails and biking paths. He combined these with his long time love of the water and joined the Triathlon Club. This culminated in completing two triathlons in his early 50's. He would always approach an activity with his full presence and was always learning. While under the water, he was frequently seen with a camera in tow to capture the wonders found below. After selling the dive shop, he would often bring a camera hiking to capture moments with family, curious colors or magical mountains. In addition to a keen eye, he had a discerning palette and could always be counted on for a tasty meal to entertain friends and family alike.
