Long-time Boulder resident Barbara A. Fettig died May 8, 2014. She was 80.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 23, 2014 at Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 6739 S. Boulder Road, in Boulder.
Barbara was a strong, positive woman who took charge of her life and didn't let the tough times get her down. She will be missed by all those who knew her. Barbara was born May 21, 1933 in Detroit, the daughter of Thomas Martin Mullin and Florence Marie O'Neill Mullin.
She graduated from St. Mary's Academy in Little Falls, N.Y. She received a BA from the College of New Rochelle in New Rochelle, N.Y., and later earned an MA in reading from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
Barbara met Albert G. Fettig at St. Mary's Academy and they were married on Oct. 8, 1955 in New York City. The couple moved to Denver in 1956, then settled in Boulder in 1966 to raise their four children.
Barbara was the inspiration and driving force behind the family's trips to Mexico and Vail, which everyone loved. She also was very involved in their Navajo Court neighborhood, played with the Flatirons Ladies' Golf League and was an active member of Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Barbara taught elementary school in Littleton for two years, then at Paddock and Columbine Elementary in Boulder for 23 years. After retiring, Barbara and Albert traveled around the world and she remained close and active with her friends from her teaching days. Playing bridge became a greater passion later in life; her close-knit bridge club along with her other group of card-playing friends were a wonderful part of her social life.
She is survived by three sons, Albert Fettig, Jr. of Louisville, Martin Fettig and his wife Peggy of Columbia, SC, and Michael Fettig & his wife Barb of Boulder; daughter Lisa Fettig of Boulder; two brothers, Thomas M. Mullin of Orange, Calif., and Stephen P. Mullin of Coronado, Calif.; sister Florence Boyle of Big Pine Key, Fla.; sister-in-law Elizabeth Stack and her children; and four grandchildren, Jade, Derek, Kendra and Nikki Fettig.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and three, brothers, Joseph, Robert and David Mullin.
