Anne Rein'l Beck

Apr 2, 1937 — Jun 20, 2026

Longtime Boulderite Anne Rein’l Beck passed away on June 20, 2026, at MorningStar Senior Living (Longmont, CO) after a long battle with dementia. She was 89.

Born April 2, 1937, in Boston, MA, to parents Robert Lincoln Rein’l and Violett “Robin” Robbins, Anne didn’t grow up in the city of her birth. At age four, Anne and her sister, Linda, joined their mother and new stepfather, Jack Sawhill, in Boulder. She called the city home for the next 85 years. She graduated from Boulder High School as Valedictorian in 1955 and immediately headed up 17th Street to earn her B.S. in Nursing from the University of Colorado.

Through the family’s decades in Boulder, Anne’s mother, Robin, became a patron of music at CU, ultimately creating a scholarship for piano students. It comes as no surprise that Anne grew up both musical and incredibly creative.

Anne married George Richard Beck in November 1958, and before long three sons joined the family. Anne embraced the role of mother and homemaker. She also volunteered as a nurse at Planned Parenthood and Boulder County Mental Health. When her sons were grown, she ran her own commercial and residential property business. In the latter half of her life, Anne lived with her life-partner of nearly 40 years, Carter Dorrell. She loved traveling, both across the United States and around the world.

Her sons will dearly miss their “Mama Bear.” They will always cherish her love and laughter, fondness for coffee and chocolate, positivity in the face of advancing illness, and the loving household she gave them to grow up in.

Anne was preceded in death by her parents, Robin Sawhill and Robert Rein’l; her sisters, Ellen Sawhill and Linda Rein’l Noel; her ex-husband, George Beck; and her life-partner, Carter Dorrell.

She is survived by her sisters, Sally Rein’l-Bautista (Tucson, AZ) and Cathy Reinel (Kula, HI); her sons, Paul Beck (Portland, OR), Philip Beck (Boulder, CO), and Eric Beck (Seattle, WA); and her two grandsons, Evan and Elliott Beck (Seattle, WA).

A Celebration of Life will be held at Unitarian Universalist Church of Boulder on Saturday, October 10, at 1:30 PM. (5001 Pennsylvania Ave, Boulder, CO 80303).
